FHP Seeks Information About Vehicle, Driver

POSTED: Monday, November 2, 2009
UPDATED: 8:07 am EST November 2, 2009

A motorcyclist leaving a Volusia County bar Sunday night was knocked off his bike after pulling in front of a pickup and killed when another vehicle ran him over in a hit-and-run, troopers said.

John Eaton, 46, of DeLand, was struck just before 10 p.m. on state Road 17 after leaving the Brass Rail Pub, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to troopers, Eaton was trying to get out of the road after being clipped by the Dodge pickup when he was run over.

The driver of the vehicle that ran over Eaton fled the area, troopers said. A description of the vehicle was not obtained because it was dark, troopers said.

The driver of the pickup was cooperating with authorities and likely will not face charges.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
