CLERMONT, Fla. -- A Clermont pastor has organized a grassroots effort to try to stop the city from allowing an adult district that would surround nearly 600 homes.
The city is scheduled to vote on the plan Tuesday night. City leaders said they will enforce strong restrictions on the businesses, which must provide an adult area or face possible lawsuits.
Pastor Chris Walker, however, said if the plan is approved, it will undoubtedly bring crime to the area.
"This type of industry will bring in crime, drugs (and ) it will bring prostitution, pedophiles," Walker said.
"I think it's going to change the whole neighborhood. I just think it's going to change it," said Elsa McCaw, who passed out "know the facts" fliers on Sunday.
The zoning meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Clermont City Hall, and the public will be allowed to comment.
