Victim May Have Been Craigslist Target

Man Shot Dead In Driveway Of Orange County Home

UPDATED: 8:06 pm EST November 3, 2009

A man who was attempting to sell his car on Craigslist in order to make a rent payment was shot dead Monday night in his east Orange County driveway, according to his roommate.

Edwin Enrique Sanbira, 30, was shot in the chest at about 7 p.m. at a home on Sagebrush Place, which is located east of Goldenrod Road near Curry Ford Road.

Shane Ludwig, Sanbira's friend since high school, said he was eating dinner when a possible buyer of Sanbira's blue Honda Civic, which was posted online, came to the home. At least three shots rang out following an apparent argument, and the potential buyer then sped off, according to witnesses.

Sanbira was the father of a 7-year-old girl.

"His father and mother are just very distraught," Ludwig said. "Of course, when your 7 years old -- his daughter -- (she asked) 'Where's Daddy?' It's kind of hard to explain."

Ludwig, a Marine who recently returned from Afghanistan, said he wished he could do more to help his friend.

"If the sheriff's department wasn't here, I definitely would have taken things in my own hands," said Shane Ludwig.

"It's scary because I have a 2-year-old son, and I didn't think anything like this would happen in my neighborhood," a neighbor said.

Ludwig described the shooter as a Hispanic man about 6 feet 3 inches tall with a thin build and wavy hair that had gel in it. He was driving a dark blue Honda Accord, he said.

A clear motive for the shooting is not known, and an investigation is under way.
