Two people living in a house of filth were arrested Tuesday night in the death of a roommate whose body was discovered after being dumped in a field near two retention ponds, Sanford police said.
Devin Simpson, 33, and Kellie Chellette, 46, have been charged in connection to the death of 30-year-old Robert Bebout, whose body was found near the home over the weekend. Simpson faces a murder charge, and Chellette is charged with being an accessory.
According to police, Bebout was likely killed last Monday inside the filthy house, located on Marshal Avenue in Sanford.
Police did not release a motive in the killing, but said it was not a drug dispute.
"We do have an admission. As to the type of object, we did recover several tools from the crime scene, but it hasn't been determined whether or not they were actually the murder weapon," Sanford police Lt. Mike Horan said.
"What kind of tools?" Local 6 News reporter Jessica D'Onofrio asked.
"A claw hammer, crow bar (and) pipe wrench," Horan said.
Five people, including the suspects and victim, lived inside the house, which Sanford police called filthy and unhealthy. Investigators donned hazmat suits before entering the home, which D'Onofrio described as having a horrible stench.
The owner of the house will not face charges because police do not believe he had anything to do with the slaying.
Sanford police said they are talking to another roommate, but she has not been charged.
Simpson was being held on no bond, and Chellette's bond was set at $4,900.
