Legless Teen Offers Support To Bree

High School Pitcher Hopes To Help Soccer Player Who Lost Leg

A local baseball player is reaching out to a soccer player who recently lost one of her legs in a car accident.

Anthony Burruto pitches for Dr. Phillips High School's junior varsity baseball team on two prosthetic legs. He was born without major bones in both legs, but since he was 7, nothing has stopped him from playing the sport he loves.

At 14, Anthony has already appeared on the cover of ESPN magazine. A story earlier this week on Local 6 about Freedom High School soccer star Bree McMahon caught his attention.

Doctors had to amputate Bree's left leg after a car crushed her lower body in September, but she hasn't been discouraged. On Monday, Bree came out to support her teammates at a soccer match and she believes she'll play again once she is fitted with a prosthetic leg.

"I want to play right now. I'm hoping to be able to play by the end of the season," Bree said at Monday night's game.

"I think that it's amazing that she still wants to play soccer," Anthony said.

Anthony would like to meet Bree to provide her with support.

"I would probably tell her everything I've been through, and how I've had them since I've been a baby and I would just tell her to try her best and she'll probably get it done," Anthony said.

Anthony's mother, Diane, thinks the pair's friendship is meant to be.

"I really think that they could become friends and a support system, basically, for each other," Diane Burruto said.

Bree's family still needs help with her recovery. You can make a donation to any local branch of the Old Southern Bank.
