Teacher Resigns Amid Alcohol Accusations

Student Charged With DUI After Allegedly Drinking At Teacher's Home

UPDATED: 9:23 pm EST November 5, 2009

A Seminole County teacher who resigned after admitting to giving her students alcohol may lose her teaching license.

Oviedo High School officials said Meredith Witt admitted to giving students alcohol at her Casselberry home this past weekend and police said one of the students drove off in Witt's car and crashed it.

Oviedo High School students had good things to say about Witt as a teacher.

"I hear she's a good teacher. Some say she's very strict," a student said.

Students said Witt taught special education until she resigned on Wednesday.

Neighbors said they were surprised to hear about the allegations against the wife and mother.

"Surprises the hell out of me. Not the type to do that," neighbor Dario Quinones said.

Dylan Ferguson, 18, is accused of drunken driving, crashing into a couple cars near his Oviedo home and then leaving the scene of the accident after drinking at Witt's home.

Ferguson's friends said Ferguson is the victim, although they said he and Witt were just friends.

The state attorney is currently deciding whether to charge Witt with giving alcohol to a minor.

The department of education will decide if Witt can keep her teaching license.
