KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- A man has been charged with assisting with an attempted suicide after telling his wife to kill herself during an argument and loading the gun for her, deputies said.
Phillip Lee Rogers, 63, was arrested on Friday after an investigation into his wife shooting herself in September.
Osceola County deputies were called to the couple's home on Sweet Plum Court in Kissimmee on Sept. 19. Deputies said Rogers told them he and his wife, Tammy Rogers, had been arguing and drinking that day when he told his wife, "Why don't you just kill yourself?"
Tammy Rogers then asked her husband for a gun, but it did not go off when she fired it, so Phil Rogers loaded the gun for her and she shot herself, deputies said.
Tammy Rogers was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center. She is now limited in her day-to-day functions and cannot care for herself.
