THE VILLAGES, Fla. -- A man told police he escaped out a bathroom window after his wife shot him twice while he was in the shower.
Sumter County sheriff's deputies found Dennis Textor at a neighbor's house on Bloomington Place in the Villages with two gunshot wounds to his chest Thursday evening.
A negotiation and SWAT team spoke with Textor's wife, Denie Textor, for four hours before she agreed to surrender.
A family friend who is a retired police chief got on the phone with her and convinced her to surrender, police said.
Denise Textor, 52 was charged with attempted first-degree murder, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said.
Dennis Textor, 59, was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center by helicopter. He is on a ventilator, but is in stable condition. Deputies hope to interview him when his condition improves.
Investigators said Denise Textor told them that her husband was "always on her about something," but she did not elaborate.
Deputies said they were still trying to figure out what caused the shooting.
Local 6 News reported that Dennis Textor is also a retired police officer.
Denise Textor appeared before a judge Friday morning. She is being held at the Sumter County Jail on no bond. Her home was searched Friday for evidence.
The Villages is a retirement community located in Lake and Sumter counties.
