PALM BAY, Fla. -- Authorities on Friday released a chilling 911 call from a 19-year-old woman who hid in the back bedroom of a Palm Bay home while four men attempted to break into the house.
The attempted home invasion occurred at about 12:30 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of Lynbrook Drive.
"There's two men on my back porch. They've been ringing my doorbell and knocking on the door," the woman told the 911 operator.
"Are you locked inside the house," the operator asked.
"Yes," said the woman, who added that she was home alone with her dog.
"Do you know who these people are?" the operator asked.
"No," the woman replied, who then said she spotted a vehicle in her driveway.
"There's a big van pulling up to my garage door," the woman said.
The 911 dispatcher then told the woman to go into a room and lock the door.
"They're trying the doors now," the woman told the 911 dispatcher. "They might be inside."
The 911 dispatcher then advised her to talk in a hushed voice so she wouldn't alert anyone.
Police arrived at the home, and instructed the woman to climb out of a bedroom window to safety.
Before officers arrived, the men fled the scene on foot in the direction of a canal two blocks to the north.
Police said the incident appears to be random.
The men were described only as black, with two wearing black shirts and two wearing white shirts.
A Brevard County sheriff's office helicopter was used in the search for the men.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
