Firefighters Remove 49-Year-Old Haines City Man From Store Roof

POSTED: Tuesday, November 24, 2009
UPDATED: 7:30 pm EST November 24, 2009

A 49-year-old man was arrested after a Central Florida supermarket owner found him stuck in the ventilation system on the roof in an attempt to burglarize the store, police said.

Randy Eugene Cliett, of Haines City, was found at about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday at the La Placita Mexico Supermarket, located at 201 N. 10th St. in Haines City.

Carmen Paulino, the business owner, called police after she heard someone screaming for help as she was opening the business, according to the Haines City Police Department.

Cliett had to be extracted from the ventilation system by the Haines City Fire Department. He was then arrested on charges of burglary to an unoccupied structure causing damage over $1,000, possession of burglary tools and felony criminal mischief.

Haines City police said Cliett was arrested on April 13, 2004, for breaking into the same business.

Cliett remains at the Polk County Jail.
