MALABAR, Fla. -- Law enforcement officials are warning South Brevard residents to stay alert after a series of daytime break-ins.
The burglaries happened while homeowners were away, Local 6 news partner Florida Today reported.
Several of the break-ins were concentrated in the rural communities of Malabar and Grant-Valkaria and likely involved suspects who knocked on the front door first, officials said.
At least 11 other burglaries have taken place in the two weeks leading up to Christmas in parts of unincorporated Melbourne and Palm Bay, records show.
Last week, Palm Bay Police arrested six juveniles in two separate cases on charges of carrying out similar break-ins. "We've had a dozen or more during the last month," said Yvonne Martinez, spokeswoman for the Palm Bay Police Department.
In Malabar and Grant-Valkaria, the sheriff's office issued an alert to residents about recent burglaries. One incident was reported Dec. 13 at a home in Micco where burglars walked into a garage and took a coffee table.
In another case, burglars pried opened the door to a home on the 1200 block of Corey Road in Malabar and made off with several hundred dollars worth of wedding bands and other valuables sheriff's reports show.
No arrests have been made.
