RALEIGH, N.C. -- He hasn't been named the American Idol. But Raleigh's Clay Aiken is already topping the charts.
Amazon.com is taking orders for singles from both Aiken and his American Idol competition, Ruben Studdard. So many people pre-ordered Aiken's CD single that he's Amazon's top seller.
Studdard's single is No. 386 on the Amazon sales list.
Meanwhile, people all across the Triangle continue to hop on the Clay-Train.
Women of all ages, and a few men, too, turned out at Triangle Town Center on Saturday to show their support for Aiken. Fans signed a pledge to vote for the hometown favorite in this week's American Idol finals. People also lined up to buy T-shirts and record video greetings for Aiken.
Proceeds will benefit Aiken's favorite charities -- the Autism Society of North Carolina and the YMCA.
Clayniacs also flocked to Northgate Mall in Durham on Saturday. People there signed well-wishes on a huge good-luck card. Organizers plan to send the card to Aiken before Tuesday night's performances.
Ryan Seachrest will announce the next American Idol during the series finale at the RBC Center on Wednesday.
