Thunderstorms in Central Florida are being blamed for sparking several brush fires Monday night, according to Local 6 News.
Firefighters across Central Florida reportedly received dozens of calls concerning brush fires sparked by lightning as soon as the storms started Monday, Local 6 News reported.
Investigators said a lightning strike caused a multiple-acre fire in Scottsmoor, Fla. The flames burned the land just south of the Volusia County line before firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control.
Thick smoke from the fire closed one northbound lane of I-95 Monday night and caused traffic problems in the area.
Lightning was also blamed for a fire in Bithlo, Fla., Monday night.
In that fire, an Orange County man was praised for his quick thinking and putting out the fire before it got out of hand, Local 6 News reported.
Fire officials said this is only the beginning for a very busy storm season.
