ORLANDO, Fla. -- Tornado watches have been issued for most of Central Florida until 8 p.m.
Despite the tornado warning being canceled in several counties, heavy rain, dangerous lightning strikes and gusty winds will continue to be possible.
The Florida Highway Patrol said it was working three times the normal number of crashes Friday evening during the storms. Minor damage, including downed trees and power lines were reported, but no injuries have been reported.
Meanwhile, seven people were taken to a hospital after a tent was blown over by high winds on the opening day of the Florida State Fair in Tampa.
Hillsborough Fire Rescue said three people sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries when the tent was upended at the fairgrounds east of downtown Friday afternoon.
High winds and heavy rain on the leading edge of a cold front sweeping through west-central Florida led the National Weather Service to issue a tornado watch until 8 p.m.
The annual state fair runs through Feb. 15.
