LAKELAND, Fla. -- A man accused of using a cell phone camera to snap pictures of a woman undressing at a tanning salon in Polk County will face a judge on Wednesday.
Lakeland police said Mark Douglas McElwee, 42, of Lakeland, was arrested on charges of video voyeurism, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Police said McElwee posed as a customer at Leon's Tanning Salon by paying for a tanning booth. He then stood on a table, reached over a divider and started taking pictures of the a woman undressing, police said.
The victim saw his arm and alerted the salon, and employees called police, who seized McElwee's cell phone.
"That's very disturbing," a concerned customer said.
The owner of Leon's Tanning, which has been in business for about 25 years, said his customers safety and security is a priority. He said the incident is the first his business has experienced.
