Officer Suspended Over Bar Fight

Police Commander Says Vendetta Fueled Prosecution

POSTED: Thursday, March 11, 2010
UPDATED: 5:13 pm EST March 11, 2010

An Apopka police commander has been suspended for four weeks without pay for his involvement in a bar fight.

Cmdr. David Call was involved in a fight at a Mount Dora bar more than a year ago.

In February, Call claimed he was prosecuted on felony charges because of a vendetta Mount Dora police have against Apopka police.

Apopka Police Chief Chuck Vavreck announced Call's suspension Thursday. He said the suspension was because Call pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges related to the fight.

Call was originally charged with felonies that could have sent him to prison for 15 years.
