WILDWOOD, Fla. -- A tractor-trailer containing 3.5 million
lottery scratch-off tickets crashed and caught fire Thursday on Interstate 75 in Central Florida.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called at about 5 p.m. to mile marker 343, near Wildwood, to manage the traffic and because the truck contained $70 million worth of $20 scratch-off tickets.
The fire department said the tickets were scattered all over the road after the back half of the trailer caught fire.
One southbound lane of the interstate was closed and traffic was backed up for 4 to 5 miles. Northbound traffic was not blocked.
The fire department said it was a single-vehicle crash caused by the rear hub of the axle rubbing together. The trailer company will be responsible for cleaning up the mess, officials said.
Marion County was struck by severe storms for much of the day Thursday.
