ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Police are looking for a burglar who broke in and stole items from the jewelry department of a store at the Altamonte Springs Mall.
The burglar smashed the outside window of the JCPenney store facing Palm Springs Drive, then ransacked the jewelry department, police said.
An employee arrived at the store, which opens at 10 a.m., on Saturday to find someone had broken in, police said.
The employee told police the burglar was possibly still inside the store hiding, which forced officers to search the entire department store, police said. No one was found, however, and the store was cleared by police.
Police said the suspected burglar likely entered the store around midnight and went directly to the jewelry department and stole jewelry in the cases.
Police are continuing to investigate and hope to have surveillance video of the robbery later Saturday.
