ORLANDO, Fla. -- The manager of a packing and shipping store has been arrested on charges that he was stealing from his own customers.
Orange County sheriff's investigators arrested Jonathan Jimenez, 29, Monday morning.
Deputies said Jimenez was stealing money orders and gift cards from the people who were sending them from the UPS store he managed in the Publix shopping center on South Chickasaw Trail in east Orange County.
"What's unfortunate about this situation is that an individual like Jonathan Jimenez, the store manager, is placed in a position of public trust, then he violates that trust by stealing your mail," Detective William Cruz said.
Jimenez denied the grand theft charges against him.
"My customers know I wouldn't steal from them," Jimenez said.
Detectives said it is hard to tell how much mail he stole, but they have surveillance tape of him using a stolen gift card at a Target store.
Customer Sandra Ertley said she mailed money to her grandchildren from the store, but it never made it.
"Violated. It makes me wonder who you can trust anymore," Ertley said.
