WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Winter Park High School teacher who was suspended amid allegations he sent a student inappropriate text messages has resigned.
The Orange County School Board announced Friday that Joel Moody resigned on Thursday.
Police told Local 6 on Tuesday a text message is at the center of the investigation, which is being conducted by school officials.
Both school and law enforcement officials were tipped off about text messages between Joel Moody and a student, but only Winter Park High School officials are investigating at this time.
The school board has been tight-lipped about the investigation, only saying that Moody has been suspended with pay.
Moody has worked at Winter Park on and off since 2002.
Before his resignation, Moody was suspended with pay.
The Winter Park High School band has done well under Moody, becoming one of the best in Central Florida.
The students and parents Local 6 spoke with said Moody is well-liked, friendly but not too friendly. Most called the allegations ridiculous.
