UPDATED: 2:19 p.m. EDT July 7, 2003

Eight concertgoers were injured during Sunday's storms at Alpine Valley Amphitheater in Wisconsin.

Officials said the victims, who were waiting to see the Dave Matthews Band, were injured when lightning struck the amphitheater.

The Walworth County Sheriff's Department says a man had his hand on a metal stake for a canopy tent when the lightning hit.

Authorities say the lightning burned a hole in the steel pole, went through his body and out through his shoe.

The Walworth County Sheriff's Department said five of the injured concertgoers were taken to a hospital.
