CLERMONT, Fla. -- A Kissimmee mother was arrested Wednesday on allegations of leaving her child alone in a hot car at a Lake County strip mall.
Tamara Schubert, 42, was arrested on charges of felony aggravated child abuse after witnesses reported the incident to authorities.
Lake County sheriff's deputies were called to the strip mall, located along U.S. 27 in Clermont, after witnesses discovered the child, whose age was not released, inside the car with the doors closed and the windows up.
Schubert said she left the child alone because she was asleep in her child safety seat, according to deputies. Shubert also said she was inside a post office for only five minutes before returning.
Witnesses said the child was alone for at least 10 minutes.
Deputies said it was 91 degrees outside when the child was found in the car, and the girl was crying, sweaty and very red.
The girl has been placed in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
Schubert was being held on $3,000 bond.
