12-Year-Old Boy Dies After Go-Cart Hits Truck

POSTED: 1:09 p.m. EDT August 12, 2003
UPDATED: 6:20 a.m. EDT August 13, 2003

A 12-year-old boy was killed after running his go-cart into the back of a truck, according to Local 6 News.

Authorities in Brevard County received a call this morning at 10:00 a.m. that a boy had been found unconscious in the back yard of his home located on Allan Shepherd Drive.

When deputies arrived, the babysitter and other children at the home did not know how long the boy had been unconscious, said Sheriff's spokeswoman Lisa Bourne told Local 6 News partner Florida Today.

Brevard County Fire Rescue called in a trauma helicopter to fly the child to the specialized children's hospital in Orlando.

"The child was still alive but not breathing upon lift-off" Bourne said.

Police have not released the boy's name.
