Dennis Rodman Arrested

Witness Says He Was Operating Boat While Intoxicated

Bad boy Dennis Rodman has been arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, according to a report.

The arrest reportedly happened near the restaurant and night club that he owns, Josh Slocum's, in Newport Beach.

A witness notified the Orange County Sheriff's Department that Rodman was driving his boat while drunk this afternoon, according to reports.

Rodman, 42, was taken into custody shortly before 4 p.m. at the dock area at 3010 Lafayette Ave., said Orange County sheriff's Lt. Hayward Miller.

The former rebounding star for the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks was booked into the Newport Beach Police Department jail.

He was expected to be released in four to six hours, however, and given a date to appear in court, said police Sgt. Steve Shulman.

Sheriff's Harbor Patrol deputies got an anonymous tip that Rodman was "operating a boat in an intoxicated state," Miller told KNBC-TV. The deputies confronted Rodman and arrested him, Miller said.

"His gait, if you will, was not steady," Miller said, adding that Rodman's speech and ability to stand were affected.

According to broadcast reports, the 6-foot, 8-inch Rodman, who played in 23 games for the Lakers in 1999, fell while being questioned by deputies.

Miller was unsure whether Rodman was given a field sobriety test to determine his blood-alcohol level.
