Oviedo Girl Avoids Assault By Offering Money
Suspect Arrested After Reported Attack
The girl told investigators she was walking on her way to
Jackson Heights Middle School just before 9 a.m. Thursday when a
man asked whether she needed a ride.
She refused, but the man ran toward her and grabbed her. She
told police she was unable to fend him off and was forced into his
house.
The girl said the attacker, who is believed to be Shawn Scipio, 25, forced her onto a bed and, despite her struggles,
pulled down her underwear.
The girl screamed. Scipio reportedly slapped her, but stopped trying to
disrobe her, she told police.
Thinking quickly, she told the man she had some money and would
give it to him. The girl handed him $28 and was allowed to leave
the house.
"She made some good decisions at the right time," Oviedo
police Cmdr. Marc Beaulieu said.
Police arrested Scipio and charged him with kidnapping, false imprisonment, attempting sexual battery and strong arm robbery.
He is being held in the Seminole County Jail Friday.
Scipio is also being held on $4,900 bail on one charge of arson of an
occupied dwelling.
