Do you think a display of a witch tied to a stake in Apopka, Fla., is offensive or just harmless fun?

Kathy Plyer has received hundreds of e-mails and calls after putting up a Halloween-related display of a witch tied to a stake surrounded by firewood at her fruit stand business on state Road 441.

The photo of the display reportedly appeared on a Web site and soon after, a flood of calls and letters began arriving from around the world.

"I find it distasteful," resident Tom Begley said. "If you put up a crematory oven on your lawn with a Star of David and a swastika and said it was a holiday display commemorating something, it would offend the Jewish community."

Plyer said her fruit stand decoration is just meant for fun.

"It's not political, it's not religious," Plyer said. "It's the season -- it's Halloween."

Plyer told Local 6 News that she will not back down to the complaints. She plans to keep the display despite the witch's head being stolen over the weekend.

"This land that she (the witch) is on is my property," Plyer said. "She is on my property and I have a right to put this up."

A group allegedly held some type of ceremony at the witch display over the weekend, Local 6 News reporter Nancy Alvarez reported.

The display will remain on the property until Nov. 1, Plyer said.
