ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Thieves have stolen more than $5,000 worth of exotic birds from an Orange County, Fla., pet store in the last few weeks, according to Local 6 News.
Police said nine birds were taken from Petland in Waterford Lakes over a four week time span.
The store's owner, Cindy Parks, believes the birds were stolen during business hours while employees were not paying attention.
"These thieves knew exactly what they were doing," Parks said. "One of them (got) into a five-foot cage, and took a scarlet macaw."
A camera film a woman apparently stealing two birds.
"She put the bird under her jacket , closed up the jacket and walked out of the store," Parks said.
All of the stolen birds are all less than a year old and could die if they are not taken care of.
If you have any information concerning the birds, you are urged to call Crimeline at (800) 423-TIPS.
