PALM BAY, Fla. -- A senior at Palm Bay High School was arrested after a fistfight with an 11th grader on a school bus that was caught on video tape, according to Local 6 News.
A video from inside the school bus showed the fight unfold between the students, both 17 years old, Local 6 News partner
Florida Today reported.
"You don't get a good view of the 11th grader, but you do see the 12th grader punching. The beating was intense," said Sara Stern, a spokeswoman for the Brevard County School District.
The incident began at about 3:30 p.m. when the 11th grader on the school bus threw what looked like a foam ball at the senior, and the senior threw it back, said Barney Weiss, a spokesman for the Palm Bay Police Department.
The video shows the 12th grader setting his books aside as the 11th grader prepared to get off the bus. As the bus slowed, the 11th grader made his way to the exit, and that's when the 12th grader lunged at him, according to
Florida Today.
The senior could be seen on video punching as the school bus driver screamed for them to stop.
Bus driver Pamela Maples called the police on the radio and broke up the fight, Weiss said.
The 12th grader was suspended for 10 days, pending expulsion and no action has been taken against the 11th grader, Stern said.
Lt. Dave Crispin of Palm Bay police said the 12th grader was charged with two misdemeanors -- battery and disrupting an educational institution.
