A town in Sicily, Italy is struggling figure out why dozens of household items are spontaneously bursting into flames -- even when the power is off, according to a Local 6 News report.
Since mid-January dozens of electrical goods and pieces of furniture have spontaneously caught on fire in Canneto di Caronia, a small town perched on the Mediterranean island's rocky coast.
Some fires have spread to engulf homes and police have temporarily evacuated some 40 residents.
The Italian utility company Enel disconnected power to the town after the first reports but the fires continued, according to the report.
Experts are stumped by the phenomenon. However, theories range from hidden arsonists, to freak power surges or possibilities that a train track running beside the town could be affecting the voltage.
Several people believe it is the work of the supernatural and that an exorcist needs to be called into the town.
