Member, Fraternity Say No Hazing Involved

A University of Central Florida fraternity faces possible punishment after a student was found tied to a tree, covered from head-to-toe in plastic wrap and smothered in food, according to Local 6 News.

Phi Delta Theta member Sean Pierce was filmed by a university police car camera Sunday tied to the tree in plastic wrap, Local 6 News reported.

A police report said Pierce was wrapped in plastic and then covered in vegetable oil, flour and chocolate syrup with marshmallows.

Pierce and the fraternity said the incident was not hazing -- just a good time, Local 6 News reported.

"It's just blown out of proportion," Pierce said. "I don't think it was that bad."

Pierce said he agreed to the stunt that was performed behind his girlfriend's sorority house.

"I kind of equate it to a bachelor party of Greek life that they tried to go have on their own," Phi Delta Theta member Sean Lavin said.

Local 6 News reported that University of Central Florida police officers are taking the incident seriously.

"Any incident of hazing could be dangerous, very dangerous," an officer said.

Members of a student conduct board will review the case and determine if it was hazing, Local 6 News reported.

Punishment for those involved could be community service and even expulsion, according to the report.
