ORLANDO, Fla. -- A heartworm prevention drug that many swear by is being given to hundreds of dogs who later die -- and some pet owners in Central Florida think it is not a coincidence, according to an Problem Solvers investigation.
Local 6 News featured two dogs in Volusia and Brevard counties whose owners believe ProHeart 6 injections contributed to their deaths.The Food And Drug Administration has also received more than 400 reports of dogs dying after getting the injections, according to the report.Some local veterinarians have heard reports concerning ProHeart 6. "We hear that some dogs have died from the shot -- they have a reaction to the shot and they die," veterinarian Javier Mulero said. However, the product's manufacturer said it has information that the drug did not kill the dogs featured in the story, Local 6 News reported. Other veterinarian told Local 6 News that the product is safe when used properly.
