The Mears cab driver, who has been identified as Matthew Manolas, 35, was found dead at about 3:15 a.m. in the 500 block of Lake Highland Drive near Lake Highland Preparatory School in downtown Orlando. No other details about his death have been released.

Orlando police arrested Samuel Jackson, 19, Darrell Davis, 21, and Harley McMillan, 22, were arrested Friday in connection with a robbery at a park on North Thornton Avenue and later charged with first-degree murder in Manolas' death.

Lake Highland Prep President Warren Hudson sent an e-mail about the slaying to parents.

"The (Orlando Police Department) is telling us that a cab driver was robbed and murdered," Hudson wrote in the e-mail.

Hudson said the two activities that take students to the north side of the lake were parking and athletic practices.

"The bottom line is that our students are safe and there is no need for worry, but I thought you would like to know what has happened near the campus," he wrote.

It marks the second time a cab driver has been killed in the city in the last nine days.

Nelvil Joseph, 42, also a Mears cab driver, was found slain on Jan. 12 at the Governor's Manor Apartments at 2847 L.B. McLeod Road.

Darrious Clay, 27, was later arrested on charges of armed robbery of a cab driver. Orlando police said Clay could also be the shooter in Joseph's death, but he has not been charged.

Clay's death was the first homicide in Orlando in 2011.

Orlando police Sgt. Barb Jones said the slayings are not connected.
