An American Indian in Volusia County, Fla., was arrested for skinning the head of a bald eagle in preparation for a spiritual ritual, according to a Local 6 News report.
Michael Rogers, 51, told investigators that he intended to bury the eagle's tendons in an Indian mound near a campground on International Speedway Boulevard In Daytona Beach, Fla., because someone poisoned the bird.Police found Rogers on March 30 skinning the bird's head, Local 6 News reported.Local 6 News reported that Rogers is licensed to handle the bald eagle but not to dismember them after they're dead.Rogers faces a $500 fine or 60 days in jail.The bird has been sent to Colorado for an autopsy.Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
