ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- An Alexandria teenager's hands were cut off early Monday morning in what police say was a gang-related attack with a machete.
Officers said the 16-year-old was walking along a street at about 1 a.m. when he was attacked by several people.
Detectives said one of the attackers had a machete and used it to cut off both of the boy's hands.
The teen had life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital, where he is expected to survive.
Doctors managed to reattach his hands. However, doctors said they could not save four fingers.
Police are still looking for his attackers.
