Residents in Orlando, Fla., will have to wait at least three more months before the dispute over the city's rightful mayor will be decided, according to Local 6 News.
Wednesday, a circuit judge granted a 60-day stay in the election-fraud lawsuit filed by Ken Mulvaney.
Mulvaney, who lost to Mayor Buddy Dyer in March, has presented the court with evidence of alleged election fraud.
However, at issue is that some witnesses could find themselves in a catch-22, Local 6 News reported. If the witnesses testify in the civil case, they could incriminate themselves in an ongoing criminal investigation launched by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The judge, protecting witness rights, granted the delay in hopes the FDLE investigation would wrap up soon, Local 6 News reported.
Another reason for the delay cited in the city's motion is that Orlando mayor Buddy Dyer and his co-defendant will be out of town during the slated trial representing the city of Orlando in the Democratic National Convention.
