A man in Leesburg, Fla., who was attacked by an 11-foot alligator at Lake Eutis was able to punch his way free and escape with minor injuries, according to Local 6 News.
Guy Daelemans (pictured, left) was standing in 3 feet of water clearing some weeds at Lake Eustis Tuesday when he was bitten on the leg by an alligator.
Daelemans struggled with the alligator for a few moments until he was able to escape its jaws by punching the alligator in the nose several times, Local 6 News reported.
"This guy was very lucky," Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesman Todd Luce said. "Anytime you encounter an alligator and it grabs a hold of you and you walk away with minor scratches and bruises, I would say you were extremely lucky."
Fearing that the alligator would continue to be aggressive, trappers went out and caught the bull gator. He was then destroyed, Local 6 News reported.
Daelemans was transported to Florida Hospital Waterman in Tavares. His injuries were not life-threatening.
