Gatorland To Help In Ala. Zoo's Alligator Recovery

13-Foot Alligator Still Missing After Ivan

Three top alligator professionals from the Gatorland park in Central Florida headed north early Tuesday to help Alabama's Gulf Coast Zoo catch an elusive 13-foot gator that escaped during Hurricane Ivan, according to Local 6 News.

Zoo officials said several alligators were able to get over zoo barriers when torrential rains of Ivan pounded the island Thursday and the ponds at the zoo overflowed.

A alligator named "Chucky" was caught on camera after the storm but is still on the loose in the area and he could become dangerous, according to the report.

Zoo general manager Kate Ramon says Chucky is well fed and not normally dangerous. But as she puts it, "... he's out now and he's dangerous. We've got to find him."

The team from Gatorland plans to search for "Chucky" at night, according to the report.
