A family in Orange County, Fla., was given five minutes to evacuate from their home Thursday morning after a 40-foot sinkhole opened up and threatened to swallow their home, according to Local 6 News.
The sinkhole opened up near Lake Holden on Honey Girl Lane near Holden Avenue and state Road 441.
The Fisher family said the hole opened up overnight and quickly swallowed to 25-foot trees in their yard.
"They (trees) were gone," Kathi Fisher said. "They were sucked straight down and you couldn't even see the top of the trees and I was speechless."
Officials gave the Fisher family five minutes to gather their belongings and leave the house before condemning it.
City engineers are not certain how deep it is, but say it is at least 25 feet deep because of the way it swallowed two trees, Local 6 News reported.
The Fisher family has insurance but will seek help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency because the sinkhole may have been caused by effects from the recent hurricanes to pass through the area.
City engineers will continue to monitor the sinkhole to determine whether to evacuate any other families.
