Grilled Cheese Virgin Mary Sold For $15K?
eBay Bidding Closes For Infamous Sandwich
The half of a sandwich is being sold by Diana Duyser, who says the 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich bears the image of the Virgin Mary. The eBay auction had a couple of false starts, with the Internet auction site first pulling the ad because they thought it was a hoax. Once Duyser convinced eBay she was serious, she posted the ad a second time, but this time she only allowed pre-approved bidders who were required to e-mail her to get on the approved list. In the previous auction the bids had surpassed $69,000.Duyser, a work-from-home jewelry designer who has bought and sold items on eBay for two years, said the grilled cheese is no joke. She said she took a bite after making it 10 years ago and saw a face staring back at her from the bread. In the new ad posted last Tuesday, Duyser wrote: "I would like all onlookers to understand why I am choosing to keep the high bidders ID private, I listed this once before and had all kinds of emails some were nice and funny comments but many were cruel intended, and vindictive, I ignored them but, I do not wish to subject potiental buyers to this form of invasion."Duyser made it clear she is serious about selling the sandwich and would not take any bid below her starting price of $3,000.With bidding due to close Monday evening, it looks as though Duyser is likely to get five times her starting price.
