The parents of two girls killed as they crossed a street in Orlando, Fla., are suing the driver of the sport utility vehicle that hit them, according to Local 6 News.
Anjelica Velez, 5, and her 2-year-old sister, Victoria were killed Oct. 27 as they crossed at the intersection of Goldenrod and Bates Roads.
Witnesses said the driver was on her cell phone when she ran a red light.
The girls' parents, Yamilka and Ivan Velez, now say the driver of the vehicle in the crash, Ashley Townsend was negligent.
The lawsuit was filed by the Velez family and seeks damages exceeding $15,000, according to a report.
The family reportedly filed the lawsuit because there have been no criminal charges filed against Townsend.
The family plans to hold a benefit to raise money for the family Saturday at 6 p.m. at the scene of the crash.
The suit also names Towsend's father, who owns the SUV.
