4 arrested after armed robbery near Ormond Beach

Deputies: Robbers take off in getaway SUV that later crashes into home

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Four people were arrested after deputies say they crashed their getaway SUV into a home following an armed robbery at a smoke shop near Ormond Beach.

The incident happened around 5:45 p.m. Thursday when, deputies say, three men, with bandanas concealing their faces, barged into Let It Roll at 775 South Yonge Street.

Authorities said the suspects robbed the business of an undisclosed amount of money from the store's safe. The men then bolted out of the business and hopped into a waiting Grand Cherokee, with a female accomplice, who drove northbound on South Yonge Street.

The fleeing vehicle made it to Nova Road, where a deputy spotted it going southbound. With deputies in pursuit, the suspects' SUV turned east on Walker Street, momentarily losing control in a church parking lot at Walker Street and Center Street.

All of a sudden, deputies said the suspects' SUV continued on, driving head-on into the patrol car of a Volusia County Sheriff's deputy who was just arriving at the scene.

The deputy got out of his patrol car and at about 5:54 p.m., deputies said he opened fire with one shot at the SUV as it drove at him.

Deputies said no one was struck by the bullet. The bullet is believed to have struck the SUV's windshield, but didn't injure any of the suspects.

The suspects' vehicle then continued onto Peacock Road in Holly Hill, where deputies said it crashed into a house about three minutes later. The impact caused structural damage, but officials said no one inside the house was hurt.

After bailing out of the SUV, authorities said all four suspects -- the three men who robbed the store and the woman who deputies said drove the getaway vehicle -- were taken into custody a short time later.

There were no serious injuries, although deputies said one suspect was bitten by a sheriff's K-9 and another suffered a minor head injury.

The shotgun and money stolen in the robbery were recovered, deputies said.

The suspects were later identified as Isaiah Brown, 18; Amanda Burns, 29; Darius River, 18; and Devin Rivera, 17, all of Daytona Beach, and all face charges, including armed robbery and principal to armed robbery.
