An Ohio family is offering a reward this weekend for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for shooting an arrow through their puppy's neck, according to a report.

The Bentz family said their 1-year-old puppy escaped their Cleveland-area property and was missing for about five hours.

When Max finally appeared, an arrow was sticking through his neck.

The family took the dog to a local veterinarian who sedated it and then removed the arrow.

The arrow missed all of Max's major organs but if it entered an inch or two on either side of the animal's neck, the puppy likely would not have survived, according to the report.

Police suspect that the shooting was not an accident, based on how the arrow entered Max's neck.

"It's a really mean thing to do to an animal," son Andrew Bentz said.

The dog is expected to recover from the injury.
