Family May Sue After Alleged Apt. Mouse Invasion

Man Say Mouse Bit His Foot

A Central Florida family is threatening to sue after they say their Orlando apartment has been overrun with mice, according to a Local 6 News report.

The Ramos family told Local 6 News that they have captured about 15 mice at their Dr. Phillips-area apartment complex since September. They believe the mice are coming in from the walls.

"I've had a mouse in my office that I just showed you bite me on my foot," renter Michael Ramos said. "We pay $1,385 a month for rent; I can go live with mice for $400 a month in Kissimmee," Ramos said.

Mouse droppings were videotaped on food, the floor and a bedside table in the home.

"It's disgusting, it's vile and the apartment complex is not doing anything about it," Ramos said.

Apartment units on the property, owned by Sand Lake Private Residences, are going condo, according to the report. And project management said it is not selling apartments with pest problems. A statement was released Monday:

"Absolutely not. We're addressing every issue we can on this project. We've responded to the Ramos' several times with ... every means possible ... We feel this is an isolated incident."

Another apartment resident said he too had mice in his apartment.

"In my apartment, I had a little mouse, like, two or three months ago," resident Ricardo Nontanez said.

The Ramos family told Local 6 News that they can't afford to move right now and they worry about the safety of their newborn.

The complex has reportedly sent pest control to the apartment six times and said the cold weather could be contributing to the Ramos' problem, Local 6 News reported.

The family reportedly called county code inspectors but the office could not be reached for comment.
