5.8 earthquake rattles East Coast

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.8 struck Tuesday near the nation's capital and sent shock waves up and down the East Coast.

The Smithsonian's American History Museum is closed for the remainder of the day Tuesday after a 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck near the nation's capital.
