A new Web site is turning used cell phones into cash to help charities, according to a Local 6 News report.
The company called cellforcash.com is paying for used and dated cell phones and donating money to charities like a home for abused girls in Texas, Local 6 News reporter Mike Holdfeld said.
"With this particular Web site we are targeting consumers who have phones in their drawer, they could have one phone, they could have a thousand -- it does not matter," cellforcash.com CEO James Mosieur said. "It doesn't matter. We'll buy pretty much any quantity."
Several people in the aired Local 6 News report said they have used the service.
"I had my old one in my car for the longest time," cell phone user Sarah Cromwell said. "We didn't know what to do with it and then this program started. It is kind of nice not to have them lying around taking up space.
