An Oregon man is lucky to be alive after being shot through his neck when a loaded gun he was carrying on top of barbecue grill fell and fired.
Sheriff's deputies said Brandon Scott, 31, and his fiance had just returned from a camping trip Monday when they began to carry items into their town home.
Scott was carrying a grill with the loaded gun on top, according to the report. Officials said the gun slid off the grill, hit the ground and fired a bullet in and out of Scott's neck.
Emergency workers who responded to the scene were amazed that Scott survived after they noticed the bullet traveled straight through his neck, near his spine and all major arteries and veins.
"He's very, very lucky," Clackamas County sheriff's Sgt. P.J. Steigleder said. "It doesn't appear that he lost consciousness."
Brandon Scott was airlifted to a hospital, where he is expected to recover.
