Several Good Samaritans are being credited with likely saving the lives of an 8-year-old boy and his mother who were submerged in water after a crash on a Volusia County, Fla., road, according to Local 6 News.
Police said a pickup and recreational vehicle collided on state Road 415 Sunday night.
The pickup flipped and landed in a ditch filled with water, which quickly filled the inside of the vehicle, police told Local 6 News.
Several motorists passing by noticed the crash and stopped to help the boy and woman trapped underwater, Local 6 News reported.
"He was stuck and his head was going underwater, so I held his head up," motorist Sean Conskiss said.
A short time later, another group jumped of people jumped into the water and began to help pull the pair to land.
"I had to move her feet from under the dash and under a seatbelt to pull her out," William Eaton said.
Two women performed cardio pulmonary resuscitation on the woman, who appeared to have turned blue from being underwater, witnesses said.
"Police said if it was not for the Good Samaritans, the boy and his mother would have died," Local 6 News reporter Vanessa Medina said.
The woman is in critical condition at Halifax Medical Center Sunday night.
The boy and two other victims in the crash are expected to recover from their injuries.
