DeBARY, Fla. – A 5-year-old boy is recovering after being bitten by a rattlesnake in Volusia County.
The bite happened at a home on Fort Florida Point Road near the Saint Johns River in DeBary.
Deputies said the snake bit the boy on the finger after he picked it up, mistaking it for a toy.
The boy was taken to a hospital. His family told News 6 that he's doing OK.
Deputies said the snake, most likely a pygmy rattlesnake, was caught and killed.
