A special task force created to look into tailgating at the University of Central Florida after a campus officer was mistakenly shot by Orlando police will meet for the first time Wednesday.
UCF Officer Mario Jenkins was shot to death by Orlando police officer Dennis Smith outside the Citrus Bowl before Saturday's game.
Jenkins was wearing street clothes and investigating underage drinking at tailgate parties when he was shot. He got into a scuffle with a student, fired his gun into the air and was then shot by Smith, who was nearby, witnesses said.
The new task force is a cross section of university officials, law enforcement, students and alumni.
The group will look at policies and procedures dealing with alcohol use and security at large public gatherings, including football games.
They hope to have recommendations in place by the next home game, Oct. 8.
