Crowds are flocking to a lawn statue of the Virgin Mary in Michigan after hearing a family's claim that her head bowed forward after a family illness.

  • "I see it as real (implausible) because I never see it bent like this, always anyplace any church, her head is up," resident Sal Wabouchar said.

The owners of the statue in Detroit said the statue used to be upright but started looking down when one of the family's son's checked into a hospital sick last month.

Their 39-year-old son died on Aug 29.

The family said three days leading up to his death, he said the Virgin Mary was speaking to him in visions, according to the report.

About a week after he died, the family took pictures of what they say is an image of Mary that periodically appeared on his portrait in the home's hallway.

"I see it as real (implausible) because I never see it bent like this, always anyplace any church, her head is up," resident Sal Wabouchar said.

"(It's a) very strange event but that can happen," said the Rev. Emmanuel Rayes, of St. Thomas Church specify.

The crowds are mostly stopping to pray, according to the report.
